Ghost Writer (Audible Audio Edition) Lorna Collins Jean Ruda Habrukowich 31 Months LLC Books
Nan, an unemployed techie, inherits a beach cottage complete with Max, a grumpy, egocentric ghost who won’t let her have any peace until she finishes the manuscript he began when he died in 1977. She begins her task, only to find that she can’t read his scribblings, but the spirit’s secretary is still alive and agrees to help with the project, not knowing Max haunts the cottage. The story is a refreshing change from books with broken characters and life-changing trauma. It reminds me of an old television series that is sometimes on reruns called The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. The characters are strong and caring, the ghost is perplexed by all the technological changes creating moments of humor, and of course, there’s a cute little dog that steals your heart.
This is a fun read you don’t have to think about, just enjoy.

Ghost Writer (Audible Audio Edition) Lorna Collins Jean Ruda Habrukowich 31 Months LLC Books Reviews
While I think the concept of this book was unique (the main character ends up ghost writing for an actual ghost), the writing was mediocre at best. The book is written in first person, which in my experience is either done very well or the exact opposite. This was not done well. I did not feel like I was inside the head of the main character's thoughts and emotions. I felt like the main character was simply dictating her actions. I did this. I did that. Then I went here. It took me quite a while to actually finish this book because I kept losing interest. The writing was just bland.
On the plus side, this is the first e-book I've purchased from this particular publisher that was formatted correctly.
This is an enjoyable, well-crafted novel. Though I am generally not a reader of this genre, I found this more than an enjoyable interlude in reading--something Novel--a thoughtful, recommendable read that held me through to the end. Well done, Lorna Collins!
Once again, Lonrna brings to life a story of Love and intrigue with her high family values and moral high ground that is entertaining and impossible to put down. From Max, the ghost, lovable Mitzy, the pooch, with her surfer neighbors, she weaves a most believable ghost writer. I have to admit ,I needed Kleenex by the end of the Tale.
Collins created a credible scenario for this ghost writer ghost story that engages from the beginning and holds to the end. Nan is a believable character surrounded by a cast of equally believable friends. The story premise is unique and thoroughly enjoyable. And the book is a two-fer filled with writing lessons for authors!
I absolutely loved this book. Even though I don't believe in ghosts, the story brought me into the cottage and made me a believer. I guessed about the painting right away and was awaiting it's discovery throughout the story. I also liked the way the story depicted a lot about the mechanics of becoming or being a writer. Bringing the ghost up to date with today's technology was also a lot of fun.
Ghost Writer by Lorna Collins was a delight. When Nanette inherits a cottage and a small dog, her life changes forever. It seems the cottage is inhabited by a ghost who was a writer and who wants his last novel completed. Nanette's employer had downsized, and she was part of the downsizing, so this couldn't come at a better time.
From trying to write and complete Max's novel to dealing with life, she has her work cut out for her. This story contains humor, more than one romance and a lot of fun. I don't generally read anything but mysteries, but this was a pleasant diversion and a nice change. To add a little more to the already fun read, there just may be a treasure to find. So maybe I was wrong, there is some mystery in the story.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be entertained and wants to find themselves smiling when they put it down.
When the first thing protagonist, Nan, tells us is that she doesn’t believe in ghosts, I immediately do, and by paragraph two, I already know this is going to be a really fun ghost – a “temperamental, egotistical, rude, smart, funny, aggravating, self-centered loveable” one.
Maximilian Alexander Murdoch is not a creepy, scary spirit. Max, who invisibly resides in the cottage Nan just inherited from her distant Aunt Netta, was a famous British writer in his earthly time. He is delightfully pompous in his enterprising schemes to persuade Nan, a laid off “techie,” to complete his unfinished magnum opus - what appears to be a flowery romance novel - on his behalf.
Max doesn’t take no for an answer, especially when he can’t move on in the spirit world until this task is accomplished. As Nanette discovers, it’s not easy to dismiss a “ghost with a mission,” and the two most unlikely partners embark on a unique journey of discovery for both of them.
Ghost Writer is an engaging, entertaining story written with wit and warmth. Smart, skeptical, practical Nan is perfectly characterized and completely believable for a woman who has no choice but to believe in ghosts.
But if I ever have to live in a cottage with a post-Victorian, British ghost, I sure hope it’s Max.
