I was told this book was base on my Diploma Nursing School. Can you imagine at 66yrs old going back to the beginning and being able to relive my nursing school days. It brings out the melancholy in me. I sit and think, "oh my gosh, I did that!". Thanks to my school friends who told me about this book. I am eternally grateful. I guess it is age that makes up want to remember how we got to where we are now?Product details

What a fantastic story! Who knew that to become a nurse in the '50's you basically went to boot camp, for 3 years, and actually worked with patients in the hospital day one! Incredible. It's an amazing story of the friendships the blossomed, but the restrictions are hard to comprehend. Curfew with a nurse doing bed checks, the girls couldn't be married, hair had to be up off your collar, and so much more. I can't imagine living in dorms in the hospital, taking classes and then working in the various wards!! WOW. And they were putting in IV lines, giving injections, assisting in operations . . . so by the time they graduated they had done hundreds without issue! They were pros - not like the nurses training today! Give me one of these nurses any time!!! I think this would make a great movie . . . or even a TV show!!
Being a nurse, graduating from that program, it was right on! Loved it!!!
this book was wonderful glimpse of nursing school in the 1950s. The schedules, responsibilities, and pressure seem so overwhelming and I am definitely glad I am in nursing school today and not back in the 50s. Great read !
